End Citizens United // Let America Vote Statement on the 2nd Anniversary of January 6 Insurrection

Jan 06, 2023

End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the 2nd anniversary of the January 6th insurrection:

“Two years ago today, American democracy faced an unprecedented threat when a mob of insurrectionists stormed the Capitol and 147 GOP members of Congress voted to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. The events that transpired on January 6 were direct attacks on what this country was built on: free and fair elections and a peaceful transition of power.

“The anti-democracy movement that the former President incited in 2021 emboldened election deniers across the country. Over half of Americans had an election denier on their ballot in 2022.

“Fortunately, voters showed up for democracy in 2022.

“The fight against the same extremist conspiracies and lies that incited a violent attack on the Capitol, and our democracy, can only be fought by expanding access to the ballot box and electing people who respect voters, the truth, and our Constitution. On the anniversary of this horrible day, we must redouble our efforts to protect the freedom to vote, crack down on the corrupting influence of money in our politics and ensure that all Americans, no matter their zip code, are fully represented in our democracy.”
