“Thank you to the members of the January 6 committee for all of their hard work to get to the bottom of what happened on that awful day, for standing up for our democracy, and for holding former President Trump and his allies accountable for planning and promoting a criminal conspiracy to overthrow the election that culminated with a violent and deadly attack on the Capitol.
“The criminal referrals for former President Trump and others are a necessary step for ensuring that the rule of law and equal justice are enforced and upheld. Everyone who planned and participated in this insurrection should be held accountable.
“The American people made clear this November that they want to protect our democracy from extremists and the criminal conspiracy to overturn the will of the voters. The committee today took an important step in making clear that there are consequences for trying to upend American democracy.”
