End Citizens United (ECU) // Let America Vote (LAV) Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision in Moore v. Harper regarding state legislatures’ role in federal elections:
“Today’s Supreme Court decision reaffirms the importance of fair and balanced voting practices. In recent years we have seen an exponential increase in attempts to suppress voters—this decision is a win not just for North Carolinians, but for democracy across the country.
“Instead of giving into the extremist push to curb access to the ballot box, and by rejecting the senseless Independent State Legislature Theory, the Court ensured that the power of voting remains in the hands of the people.
“While we celebrate this decision, the fight for free and fair elections isn’t over. Congress must implement national standards that protect the freedom to vote for all—ensuring that our democracy cannot be corrupted by powerful billionaires and right-wing extremists attempting to sway the Court’s decisions.”
