Senate must meet urgency of the moment to protect the right to vote, limit the influence of big money, and crack down on corruption
End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement calling on the Senate to swiftly pass the For the People Act (H.R. 1, S. 1) after the House passed the historic bill last night:
“Washington has never been more broken. Special interests have too much power and influence in Washington and Republican-led states are engaging in a power grab to take away voting rights. In this defining moment in our nation’s history, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Now is the time to pass common sense reforms to protect the right to vote, limit the influence of big money, and crack down on political corruption.
“The House, under Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s leadership, passed the For the People Act (H.R. 1) last night in a critical step towards bringing these necessary changes to make politicians more accountable to Americans. The Senate, led by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, has already made clear that this bill is a top priority by deeming it S. 1, and we’re confident they will finish the job to pass this historic reform bill into law. This bill will benefit all Americans, and it will allow us to take on the major issues of our day, like lowering the costs of healthcare and prescription drugs and making the economy work for everyone, not just those at the top.”
