Jan 18, 2024

End Citizens United // Let America Vote (ECU // LAV) today endorsed Debbie Mucarsel-Powell for U.S. Senate in Florida.

“Debbie Mucarsel-Powell has shown that she’ll always fight to ensure that all Floridians have a voice in Washington—not just the wealthy elite,” said Tiffany Muller, President of ECU // LAV. “Unlike Rick Scott—who is only out for himself and his bottom line—Mucarsel-Powell is a champion for working families. She has a proven record of standing up for the issues that matter most to Floridians, including expanding the freedom to vote, protecting reproductive rights, and lowering the cost of prescription drugs. We look forward to helping her win.”

“I am so grateful to have the support of End Citizens United, a group that shares my commitment to restoring the integrity of our democracy and fighting for a fair and transparent political system,” said Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. “Together, we will send a powerful message that we reject the undue influence of money in politics and demand leaders who prioritize the needs of everyday citizens – unlike self-serving millionaire Rick Scott, who threatens democracy by putting himself and his corporate donors ahead of our communities.”

During her time in Congress, Mucarsel-Powell pushed to expand and protect the freedom to vote and root out corruption. This included her cosponsoring the For the People Act (H.R.1)—a once-in-a-generation anti-corruption bill, as well as cosponsoring H.R. 4, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. She also supported a number of pro-democracy reform bills, including the DISCLOSE Act and the Supreme Court Ethics Act.

ECU // LAV is dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money and attempts to block access to the ballot box. Since its founding in 2015, the group has had over 1 million donors and raised $200 million, with an average donation of just $14. The group has more than 4 million members nationwide.
