McCready rejects corporate PAC money
ECU’s members gave an average of $10 directly to McCready’s campaign
Washington, DC –– End Citizens United (ECU) announced it has raised over $100,000, with an average contribution of $10, for Dan McCready’s campaign in the special election for North Carolina’s ninth Congressional District. ECU connected its 550,000 grassroots donors, including 5,700 in NC-09, with McCready’s campaign to help ensure that he has the resources to win.
“Dan McCready’s commitment to serving North Carolina families, not corporate special interests, puts him in a position to win next week,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Dan Bishop is beholden to corporate special interests and will be just another cog in Washington’s rigged system. This fundraising haul is a testament to the grassroots energy and enthusiasm for reformers. End Citizens United and our grassroots members have been proud to stand with Dan McCready.”
ECU was an early endorser of McCready in the 2018 midterm cycle. Dan McCready has made rooting out government corruption and fixing our broken political system a cornerstone of his candidacy. McCready’s Republican opponent, Dan Bishop, has taken almost $90,000 in corporate PAC money over the course of his career, including thousands of dollars from big banks, oil and gas companies, big pharma, and the Koch Brothers.
ECU is dedicated to getting Big Money out of politics and fixing the rigged system in Washington so government works for all Americans. The reform group has four million members nationwide and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14. ECU spearheaded the movement among candidates to forgo corporate PAC money in their campaigns during the 2018 election cycle. In the 116th Congress, nearly 60 members are refusing to take corporate PAC money, which includes 27 members of the House freshman class who flipped their district.
