ECU has raised $7 million directly for candidates, eclipsing the $600,000 it directly raised for candidates in the 2016 cycle
End Citizens United (ECU) today announced that its members have raised $7 million in small-dollar donations directly for its endorsed candidates, eclipsing the $600,000 it raised for candidates in the 2016 cycle.
As a traditional political action committee (PAC) that is entirely funded by small-dollar, grassroots donors, ECU helps elect candidates committed to ending the corrupting influence of Big Money in politics.
“These grassroots fundraising numbers are a testament to the intense passion Americans have to reshape the power structure so that our government is responsive to the will of the people, not the special interests,” said ECU President Tiffany Muller. “Our grassroots members and donors are proof positive that there is an alternative to the Big Money machine that funds too many politicians in Washington. The boost in fundraising allows our candidates to spend more time talking with real people instead of spending countless hours with corporate special interests. We’re incredibly grateful for our grassroots donors and their support for reform.”
As an example of ECU’s grassroots donors enthusiasm and strength, in North Dakota, ECU’s donors contributed over $670,000 directly to Senator Heidi Heitkamp’s campaign following her announcement that she would vote no on Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination and in the Texas, ECU’s donors have given over $400,000 directly to Beto O’Rourke’s campaign. On the House side, ECU donors have contributed over $59,000 to Katie Porter running in CA-45 and $35,000 to Elissa Slotkin, candidate in MI-08.
Since its inception in 2015, ECU has grown to 4 million members with more than 450,000 donors who give an average contribution of $14. ECU has endorsed 235 candidates for the 2018 cycle. This cycle, 133 of those candidates have pledged to reject corporate PAC money, a movement spearheaded by ECU.
