End Citizens United Statement Applauding Carolyn Long’s Anti-Corruption Plan

Sep 25, 2020

Long’s plan would put an end to the influence of big money in politics to ensure our government works for Washingtonians, not corporate special interests

End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller released the following statement applauding Democratic candidate for WA-03 Carolyn Long’s Anti-Corruption Plan

“Carolyn Long has made taking on corruption a top priority and her Anti-Corruption plan tackles the overwhelming influence of Big Money in politics that for too long has prevented elected officials from making progress on critical issues. Her plan details specific steps to eliminating this influence, like banning political donations from corporate PACs, overturning the disastrous Citizens United decision, and ending the revolving door between Congress and lobbying firms. From ensuring quality affordable healthcare, to lowering the cost of prescription drugs, to making sure we have clean air to breathe, Carolyn Long’s plan makes clear that she’s committed to standing up to corporate special interests and fighting for Washingtonians.”

While Carolyn Long is running a reform-focused campaign to clean up D.C., Congresswoman Herrera Beutler is entrenched in its corrupt status quo. Rep. Beutler has taken over $1.6 million from corporate PACs over the course of her career and voted against the For the People Act (H.R. 1), the biggest anti-corruption, voting rights and ethics reform bill in a generation.

ECU endorsed Carolyn Long in September 2019 because of her commitment to anti-corruption reforms. Long rejects corporate PAC money and is building a grassroots movement. ECU is a traditional political action committee (PAC) with more than four million members, including nearly 10,000 in WA-03.
