End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s executive order imposing new restrictions on voter registration:
“This executive order is a blatant voter suppression tactic masquerading as election integrity. Trump is weaponizing the federal government to make it harder for Americans––particularly people of color, young people, and working-class voters––to participate in our democracy and make their voices heard. But under the Constitution, Congress and the states, not the president, set the rules for our elections. This is a dangerous and unconstitutional attempt to change the election process ahead of the midterm elections to serve his political agenda and hold onto power. We look forward to fighting this executive order to protect every American’s freedom to vote.”
