PolitiFact: “Greenfield is accurate when she says she hasn’t taken corporate PAC money.”
End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller issued the following statement in response to a new ad from Senator Joni Ernst that lies about Theresa Greenfield’s commitment to rejecting corporate PAC money:
“Senator Ernst is lying about Theresa Greenfield because her willingness to stand up to the corrupt status quo threatens Ernst’s political career. Before Senator Ernst slings attacks at Theresa, she should come clean about how she’s taken over $2 million from corporate PACs, voted for a $1.9 trillion corporate tax scam that included a $76 billion tax break for Big Pharma, and got caught working with a dark money group.
“The truth is Theresa Greenfield is standing up to the system that Senator Ernst and her donors have created, and her refusal to take a dime of corporate PAC money is making her a target. But no matter how many lies or corporate talking points Ernst spews, Iowa families know that Theresa represents the type of leadership that will make Washington finally work for the people, not special interests.
“If Senator Ernst wants to make Theresa’s commitment to anti-corruption reforms an issue in this race, we welcome it and look forward to exposing Ernst’s reliance on Big Money and her record of betraying Iowans.”
ECU and LAV endorsed Theresa Greenfield in July 2019 because of her commitment to ending corruption in Washington. In her first major policy announcement, Greenfield released a bold and comprehensive plan to end political corruption by getting Big Money out of politics and passing legislation that will ban dark money and corporate PAC money. A PolitiFact review from May found that “Greenfield is accurate when she says she hasn’t taken corporate PAC money.”
