End Citizens United (ECU) today released its list of “Most Corrupt” politicians running for reelection. The initiative is aimed at exposing and defeating the most egregious perpetrators of corruption in Washington.
“The politicians on the Most Corrupt list epitomize everything that is wrong with Congress,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “They shamelessly abuse their positions of power for personal gain and have effectively put a price tag on elected office. Every member on this list has exhibited a disturbing and detailed pattern of prioritizing their own interests and the interests of their big donors over the needs of their constituents. We’re going to hold them accountable by exposing their records and engaging with their constituents through Election Day to make sure they know just how corrupt their elected officials are.”
The members of the “Most Corrupt” list include:
-
Sen. Rick Scott (Florida)
-
Sen. Josh Hawley (Missouri)
-
Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas)
-
Rep. David Schweikert (AZ-01)
-
Rep. Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06)
-
Rep. Mike Garcia (CA-27)
-
Rep. Ken Calvert (CA-41)
-
Rep. Ryan Zinke (MT-01)
-
Rep. Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07)
-
Rep. Anthony D’Esposito (NY-04)
-
Rep. Mike Lawler (NY-17)
-
Rep. Marc Molinaro (NY-19)
Collectively, the politicians on the Most Corrupt list have accepted millions of dollars from corporate special interests and advance their needs rather than serving the public interest. They have taken $30 million from corporate PACs while opposing efforts to rein in corporate greed that’s fueling historic inflation. They’ve taken $13.2 million from the health care industry while opposing measures to reduce the cost of prescriptions. They’ve taken more than $41 million from Wall Street and venture capital while spearheading efforts to deregulate those industries. They’ve taken $12 million from fossil fuel producers and utilities while opposing measures to grow clean energy jobs.
End Citizens United will highlight some of the most egregious examples of the Most Corrupt members’ records on a new website. The group will work to engage with voters and media leading up to Election Day.
ECU // LAV is dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money and attempts to block access to the ballot box.
