End Citizens United Urges McConnell & Senate Republicans to Act Quickly Following Decision to Take Long Weekend Off and Delay Relief Package

Mar 18, 2020

End Citizens United Action Fund President Tiffany Muller issued the following statement urging Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans to quickly pass a relief package after taking a long weekend, which is now causing delays on passing the House stimulus package in response to COVID-19:

“In this time of crisis and uncertainty, the American people are looking to their elected representatives to put partisan politics aside and act quickly and decisively. The threat and impact of the coronavirus is real, and the Senate’s first and foremost priority should be to protect and assist American families.

“Congress’ response to this disease must be commensurate with the severity that it poses. But Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans’ decision to take a long weekend off while experts were sounding the alarm is now causing further delays in passing this crucial relief package. If the Senate can prioritize and rush through massive tax cuts for corporations and partisan judicial nominations, it ought to be able to pass a relief package for a deadly pandemic virus in a timely manner. Taking the weekend off while a contagious disease rips through the country is unconscionable. Now is an opportunity to do better.”
