Ossoff rejects all donations from corporate PACs and federal lobbyists
Perdue has accepted over $3.1 million from corporate PACs over the course of his career
Jon Ossoff took on Senator David Perdue in a debate tonight to make his case to the people of Georgia for the U.S. Senate seat and proved that the differences between these two candidates are stark. Ossoff has made a career out of investigating government corruption at home and abroad and is fighting to unrig the system that has drowned out the voices of Georgians; Senator David Perdue is one of Washington’s most corrupt bad actors.
“David Perdue was elected to work for Georgia families, but instead went to work for corporate special interests,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “If Georgians wonder why prices remain high for prescription drugs and healthcare, look no further than Senator Perdue. He has been at the forefront of preventing lowering the cost of prescription drugs, and has threatened Georgians with pre-existing conditions by gutting the Affordable Care Act because the Big Pharma and health insurance PACs that bankroll his campaign demand it. Jon Ossoff won’t be beholden to corporate special interests because he’s running a grassroots campaign powered by small donors and rejects corporate PAC donations. Senator Perdue’s tenure will be remembered for what it was: the epitome of corruption.”
Jon Ossoff is building a people-powered movement in Georgia by prioritizing anti-corruption and government reforms and rejecting donations from corporate PACs and federal lobbyists. From protecting Georgians with pre-existing conditions, to lowering the cost of prescription drugs and protecting and expanding Georgians’ right to vote, Jon Ossoff is bringing his life’s work fighting against corruption to Washington. Jon’s mentor both personally and professionally was the late voting and civil rights icon Congressman John Lewis. Ossoff will honor Lewis’ legacy by protecting and advancing Georgians’ voting rights in Washington. Georgians are tired of the corrupt status quo that Senator Perdue embodies and want accountable leaders like Jon Ossoff who will put their needs first.
Instead of fighting for those he’s supposed to represent, Senator Perdue has spent his career catering to corporate special interests and his wealthiest donors. Individuals who contribute $5,400 and PACs that contribute $7,500, referred to as “The Boardroom,” get special access to the Senator at quarterly meetings, an annual retreat at Georgia’s Sea Island Resort, and a yearly reception at Perdue’s home. Meanwhile, Georgia families are left to fend for themselves if they don’t have the funds to compete for Perdue’s attention. He has repeatedly benefitted Big Money’s bottom line in Congress by opposing key democracy and ethics reforms to protect the corruption his career is rooted in, leaving Georgia families behind in the process. While Georgia families suffered from the impact of COVID-19, Senator Perdue was accused of using insider information from Senate briefings to secure his stock portfolio, purchasing stocks in pharmaceutical and personal protective equipment companies. Georgians are worse off because of corrupt politicians like David Perdue.
