Reverend Raphael Warnock took on unelected Senator Kelly Loeffler, friend to corporate PACs Doug Collins, and three others in a debate for Georgia’s special election today. Warnock’s two major competitors are Loeffler, a GOP megadonor and millionaire who bought her seat in the U.S. Senate, and Collins, a career politician that is beholden to the corporate special interest donors that have funded his political career.
“Kelly Loeffler didn’t earn Georgians’ support to be a U.S. Senator, she bought it for $20 million, and thinks she can get whatever she wants by writing the biggest checks. Doug Collins has put his corporate special interest donors’ needs ahead of Georgians in Congress, and is now asking for a promotion,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Georgians are fed up with this corrupt pay-to-play scheme that both Loeffler and Collins embody. Meanwhile, Reverend Raphael Warnock is a voting rights and anti-corruption reform champion who doesn’t accept corporate PAC money. We’ll make sure voters remember these differences in the special election in November.”
Raphael Warnock has worked as a pastor, an advocate, and community leader and is dedicated to protecting Georgians’ right to vote. Following in the footsteps of his mentor, the late civil rights icon Congressman John Lewis, Warnock believes the best way to honor his legacy is by supporting key voting rights reforms like the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Georgia has a long history of undermining its residents’ right to vote. The fight is far from over, but sending Raphael Warnock to Washington guarantees a fighter on behalf of Georgians’ access to the ballot and interests in Congress.
Kelly Loeffler embodies everything voters hate about Washington. She uses her connections and wealth to further her own corrupt agenda in Congress instead of supporting legislation that would help Georgians. Loeffler is so entrenched in corruption it’s hard to keep track of the newest scandal. From support by a Super PAC financed by her husband, to conflicts of interest that question her ability to make unbiased decisions in Congress, to her family’s history of bankrolling corrupt politicians and PACs and allegations of using insider information amid the COVID-19 pandemic to secure her stock portfolio, it’s clear that it’s time for Loeffler to go.
Doug Collins has proven that he doesn’t have the spine to stand up to big dollar donors and party bosses to do what’s right for Georgians. He has spewed debunked lies about the For the People Act (H.R. 1) and has a track record of protecting dark money donors. He has voted against key transparency and accountability measures that would shine a light on the dark money in our political system, and supported a Koch-backed bill to prevent the IRS from requiring political nonprofits to disclose their donors, making it impossible to determine who funds dark money groups while making it easier for foreign governments and corporations to secretly spend unlimited money in our elections. Doug Collins is Washington corruption at its worst, and Georgians must send him and Kelly Loeffler home for good.
