After being forced to reverse his previous claims and come clean about election bill, Gardner inexplicably stands by misinformation anyway
End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement after New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner testified today in front of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary on voting rights and the For the People Act (H.R. 1/S. 1). Gardner has repeatedly spread misinformation about the critical reform package, but today reversed his previous claims and admitted the For the People Act does not affect New Hampshire’s presidential primary schedule.
“Today Secretary Bill Gardner admitted what the rest of us already knew: the For the People Act does not address or impact the presidential primary schedule in any way whatsoever. Inexplicably, after admitting the truth, he then baselessly stood by his misinformation anyway. Secretary Gardner’s commitment to spreading misinformation has become routine. He willingly joined Donald Trump’s voter suppression commission following the 2016 election. That committee famously came up empty on substance and fact. Secretary Gardner is now continuing to sacrifice his credibility by knowingly parroting misinformation about the For the People Act. The lies, being spread by dark money groups, are designed to help keep the system rigged in favor of corporate special interests and big donors, and to help the Republicans in their pocket hold onto power.
“Here’s the truth. The For the People Act is a critical anti-corruption and voting rights bill. It will get dark money out of politics, stop billionaires from buying elections, crack down on corruption in both parties, and end partisan gerrymandering. The bill will protect people’s freedom to vote in New Hampshire and elsewhere, and ensure our elections are safe, accurate, and accessible. Secretary Garnder’s dedication to misinformation is part of a concerted effort to spread fabricated lies and try to block the much-needed reforms S. 1 will bring to our democracy.”
