End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on news that Representative Cindy Axne (IA-03) is advancing to the general election:
“Congresswoman Cindy Axne has established herself as a committed reformer who only works for Iowa families. In 2018, she flipped a battleground district by rejecting corporate PAC money and made one of the very first bills she co-sponsored and helped pass the For the People Act, the most comprehensive anti-corruption, voting rights, and ethics bill since Watergate. Meanwhile, ex-congressman David Young has accepted over a million dollars from corporate PACs and voted to eliminate protections for Iowans with pre-existing conditions. We look forward to ensuring her re-election so she continues the incredible work she started.”
ECU endorsed Axne’s re-election campaign in March 2019 as part of the group’s first round of House incumbent endorsements. Axne ran on a platform of reform in 2018, and showed leadership in the passage of the For the People Act (H.R.1). The reform group has four million members nationwide, including 7,600 in IA-03, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
