In First Round of House Endorsements, End Citizens United // Let America Vote Endorse Rep. Jared Golden for Reelection

Jun 02, 2021

Golden has led efforts to pass anti-corruption reforms and protect voting rights and does not accept corporate PAC money

End Citizens United (ECU) // Let America Vote (LAV) today endorsed Representative Jared Golden in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District for reelection, as part of the group’s first round of House of Representatives endorsements for the 2022 election cycle.

Representative Golden was first elected to the House in 2018 as part of the historic class that flipped the chamber by promising to stand up for working families––not special interests and big corporations––and working to protect and expand voting rights. Since arriving in Washington, he has followed through on his promise to return power to Mainers by not accepting corporate PAC money and twice cosponsoring and passing the for the For the People Act (H.R. 1)––a once-in-a-generation anti-corruption bill that would stop billionaires and corporate special interests from buying our elections, shine a light on dark money, end partisan gerrymandering, protect the freedom to vote, and institute iron-clad ethics laws. Golden also introduced the Ban Corporate PACs Act that would ban all corporate Political Action Committees (PACs) to stop the corrosive and corrupting influence of corporate money in politics.

“During his short time in Congress, Representative Golden has emerged as a leader among leaders in the fight to root out corruption in Washington and protect the right to vote,” said ECU/LAV President Tiffany Muller. “He understands that we can’t make progress on the issues important to Maine families, like lowering the cost of prescription drugs or expanding healthcare, unless we remove the outsized influence of corporate special interests from politics. Whether it’s his decision to refuse corporate PAC money or his efforts to pass the For the People Act, Representative Golden is changing the way Washington works. We’re proud to endorse him, and we look forward to helping him win.”

“I’m honored to have the endorsement of End Citizens United and look forward to partnering with them to return power to the American people and ensure that Washington works for the working class,” said Congressman Jared Golden, ME-02.

ECU // LAV merged in 2020 and raised and contributed $157,000 in small dollar grassroots donations to Golden’s campaign and spent $416,000 on a TV ad campaign. The group is dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money and attempts to block access to the ballot box. ECU led the effort to flip the House in 2018 by supporting pro-reform candidates that stood up to Big Money and corporate special interests. In 2020, ECU // LAV led the fight to protect all Americans’ right to vote, and played a pivotal role in electing anti-corruption Senate candidates that helped flip the chamber. ECU // LAV has more than four million members nationwide, including 15,700 in ME-02.
