End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on reforms to the Electoral Count Act being included in the omnibus bill:
“As we’ve seen in the January 6 Committee hearings, we came inches away from losing our democracy. That’s why it is so important that Congress included crucial reforms to the Electoral Count Act in the omnibus bill, to help prevent another January 6-like attack on our Capitol and protect our free and fair elections.
“Voters resoundingly rejected MAGA extremists and election deniers in the 2022 election and made it clear that they will not stand for attempts to undermine our democracy.
“Passing this Electoral Count Act is a major step in the right direction. And we need to continue to do more, including measures to end dark money, stop partisan gerrymandering, and protect the freedom to vote. Americans are demanding that we uphold and protect our fundamental democratic principles and that includes expanding access to the ballot box and ensuring that everyday working people have a strong say in our democracy—not just the wealthy and partisan special interests.”
