It Took Cigna a Hot Second to Decide Access and Influence Are More Important than American Democracy

Mar 19, 2021

End Citizens United and Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on news that Cigna broke its pledge to stop donations to seditious members of Congress who helped incite a deadly and violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. On February 4th, Cigna donated to Rick Scott’s NRSC. Scott is the chairman of the NRSC and one of the senators who voted to overturn the election, inciting the insurrection at the Capitol.

“It only took 22 days for Cigna to decide that buying access and influence is more important than American democracy. Cigna needs to keep its word and stop donating to seditious members of Congress who tried and failed to overturn the election and incited an insurrection. Otherwise, history will remember the corporation’s role underwriting a deadly assault on the Capitol.”
