Tomorrow, former Trump staffers are organizing a dangerous rally at the U.S. Capitol just months after the former president led his supporters in a violent and deadly insurrection to stop the peaceful transfer of power. The rally already has led to an increased risk of further violent actions from Trump supporters.
The rally organizers and attendees are following the lead of Republicans in Congress who have downplayed and lied about how horrific that day was, and continue to perpetuate the Big Lie.
“Once again, there is a threat of political violence from extremist supporters of the former president at the U.S. Capitol because Republicans continue to lie about the January 6 insurrection and the free and fair results of the 2020 election. They have not only spread misinformation about the insurrection but even blocked a bipartisan commission to investigate the deadly attack on the Capitol, choosing loyalty to the former president instead,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller. “The rally tomorrow is another threat to our democracy and an attempt to understate the seriousness of the January 6 insurrection and the severity of the damage that day did to our democracy. This rally also underscores the need for the Senate to quickly pass the Freedom to Vote Act. This common sense legislation would protect the freedom to vote and accurately represent the will of the people, protect Americans against malicious misinformation campaigns, and shine a light on dark money groups propping up groups who organize extremist events like this one.”
