Larry Elder is bringing the Trump playbook to California, baselessly claiming that the recall election was stolen, even before the election happened. His campaign website was found to have a page that conceded defeat prior to election day and falsely blamed his loss on voter fraud.
“Larry Elder’s lies about the election are dangerous and only serve to further undermine trust in our democracy. He is taking a page out of Trump’s playbook in an effort to subvert the voice and vote of the people of California,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller. “Lying about election fraud and restricting the freedom to vote is the new normal for Republican candidates. With this rising threat to our democracy, the U.S. Senate must pass the newly introduced Freedom to Vote Act, which would protect voting rights and protect the process of counting the votes and certifying the elections from partisan subversion.
Senators Joe Manchin, Amy Klobuchar, Jeff Merkley, Raphael Warnock and others recently announced a compromise agreement on voting rights, the Freedom to Vote Act, which would prevent election subversion, eliminate partisan gerrymandering, and end dark money so that billionaires can’t buy elections. If signed into law, it would be one of the most significant voting rights and anti-corruption bills in American history. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer will be bringing up the bill to the Senate floor for a vote as early as next week.
