This week’s ruling from the Alabama Supreme Court is just the latest in Republicans’ coordinated attacks on reproductive freedoms, already causing three IVF providers to pause their treatments. Like most other cases since Roe v. Wade, conversative kingpin Leonard Leo has his fingerprints all over the Alabama decision.
Chief Justice Tom Parker, who holds radical Christian nationalist views, is involved with the Federalist Society, of which Leo is co-chairman. The Federalist Society has been central in Leo’s work to capture state and federal courts and in shaping the judicial system to fit his extreme conservative ideology of stripping Americans of their reproductive freedoms.
“Once again, Leonard Leo can be found where he doesn’t belong—at the center of court rulings restricting a woman’s right to make decisions about her body,” said ECU President Tiffany Muller. “And let’s be clear, this isn’t just about Alabama. Leo’s dark money network of extremists and their hand-picked judges are working to impose their extreme agenda nationwide. It began with a billion-dollar dark money campaign to capture the Supreme Court and overturn Roe v. Wade, and now they’re coming for IVF, contraception, and total and complete bans on all abortions with no exceptions. They’re attempting to circumvent the democratic process to rip away our rights and freedoms.”
In addition to the corrupt Federalist Society, Leo has weaponized his extensive dark money network to influence pivotal Supreme Court cases, undermine our democracy, and strip us of our freedoms.
