Rubio continues to protect corrupt system, secret spending
Senator Marco Rubio just voted (again) against the DISCLOSE Act, allowing dark money to continue to corrupt our politics and allowing billionaires and corporations to continue to buy our elections.
“It’s no surprise that Marco Rubio voted to protect his billionaire and corporate-backed dark money allies. During his time in office, he’s taken over $3.4 million from corporate PACs and benefited from millions in dark money spending. He then turned around and voted to protect those same corporations and billionaires from paying what they owe in taxes,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller. “Rubio and his billionaire donors benefit from dark money in our elections, and that’s exactly why he voted to keep it in place today.”
The DISCLOSE Act:
-
Will shine a light on the flood of dark money in elections by requiring organizations that engage in electioneering – including super PACs and 501(c)(4) dark money groups – to disclose the identities of donors who have given them $10,000 or more during an election cycle.
-
Requires companies spending money in elections to disclose their true owners, so election officials and the public know who is behind the spending and stops foreign actors from meddling in our elections.
-
Is supported by 92% of voters.
Marco Rubio has voted against the DISCLOSE Act 9 times now, including 6 times in just the past two years.
