Ahead of the anniversary of the violent insurrection of January 6, 2021 fueled by Donald Trump and his efforts to overturn the election with fake electors, End Citizens United // Let America Vote president Tiffany Muller released the following statement on Connecticut hedge fund multi-millionaire David McCormick’s deep ties to Trump’s fake electors and election deniers:
“David McCormick has enabled, empowered, and sought the support of the very same people who worked to overturn the will of the people in the 2020 election and undermine our democracy on January 6. He cannot be trusted to defend and protect our Constitution. Our democracy is on the line in this election but Connecticut hedge fund multi-millionaire McCormick has proven he’s only looking out for his own self-interest.”
McCormick has deep ties to Trump’s fake electors and election deniers, including hiring a former election denier, Sam Demarco, to run his PAC and paying nearly $40,000 to Mike Roman, a political operative for Trump who is also facing charges in Georgia. McCormick has also been supported by several Pennsylvanians tied to Trump’s fake elector plot, including being endorsed by Doug Mastriano, one of Pennsylvania’s biggest election deniers who has never denounced his views, and Rep. Scott Perry, who played a critical role in Trump’s efforts to overturn the election. Additionally, a letter intended to get McCormick to jump into the race was signed by Sam DeMarco, Bernie Comfort, Charlie Gerow, Lisa Patton, and Ash Khare, all of whom were identified as part of Trump’s fake elector plot.
