The same right-wing dark money groups that pushed for Trump’s extremist agenda are also going after President Biden’s historic student loan relief program. Their MAGA agenda is far out of step with the American people.
One of those groups is the America First Policy Institute (AFPI).
Known as Trump’s “White House in waiting,” America First Policy Institute is a 501(c)(3) dark money group formed by a host of Trump officials after working in an administration that gave tax cuts to wealthy corporations and tried to end loan forgiveness. Guided by this extremist MAGA agenda, the group spent nearly $1.4 million on lobbying efforts in 2022 and its allied super PAC spent over $5 million to elect candidates during the 2022 election.
With the Supreme Court set to hear arguments over student debt forgiveness on February 28th, America First Policy Institute signed onto an amicus brief in opposition to the relief program. At the same time they are attacking measures to support millions of working Americans who live in crippling debt, AFPI has spent millions to benefit their billionaire and corporate allies.
This is the extremist dark money apparatus’ playbook: Billionaires and corporations fund shady groups to overturn policies that will help working people in order to boost their bottom lines.
