Megadonor Lisa Scheller Can’t Strike Chord with Pennsylvania Voters

Oct 02, 2020

Lisa Scheller accepts money from corporate PACs and supports unlimited contributions in campaigns

Lisa Scheller originally said she would not base her campaign for Pennsylvania’s Seventh Congressional District on Donald Trump. Months of unsuccessfully connecting with Pennsylvania voters later, Scheller changed her tune, embracing the President and the corruption he embodies. Lisa Scheller is relying on Donald Trump to get her over the finish line this November, but voters can see right through her act. Lisa Scheller is a GOP megadonor and millionaire, out of touch with the needs of working Pennyslvanians.

“Pennsylvania voters sent Susan Wild to Washington to fix the broken system and fight for their needs, and that’s exactly what she’s done. Whether it’s working to lower prescription drug prices, rooting out corruption, or protecting the right to vote, Susan has been laser-focused on delivering results for families in the district. She’s demonstrating what real leadership looks like,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Meanwhile, Lisa Scheller’s playbook is to lie about Susan Wild’s record and latch herself onto President Trump in hopes that he can boost her flailing campaign. Pennsylvanians know that she would be a rubber stamp for the President and his corporate special interest-driven agenda, and they don’t want that.”

Scheller has not called out the President’s corruption or wild conspiracy theories because she’s counting on his support to win. Lisa Scheller advocated for unlimited campaign contributions, going as far as calling limits on contributions a “suppression of free speech,” and contributing $1.2 million of her own money to her failing campaign. She hasn’t stepped up to introduce any plan to remove the corrupting influence of Big Money in politics, which is the root of inaction on every issue important to Pennsylvania voters.

Susan Wild, who rejects corporate PAC money, has the support and respect from Pennsylvania voters because in under two years she has proven that she will stand up to the culture of corruption in Washington to deliver for the people in her district. Here are a few highlights of the legislation Congresswoman Wild has supported to help Pennsylvania families:

  • For The People Act (H.R.1): The most sweeping anti-corruption, voting rights, and ethics reform legislation in a generation. It would expand Americans’ access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of Big Money in politics, increase transparency, and strengthen ethics rules for public servants.

  • The Lower Drug Costs Now Act (H.R. 3): This bill would force Big Pharma to stop ripping off Pennsylvanians. It would grant Medicare new powers to negotiate annual prices for the 250 most expensive drugs on the market. It also makes the lower drug prices negotiated by Medicare available to Pennsyvanians with private insurance. And it stops drug companies from ripping off Pennsylvania while charging other countries less for the same drugs.

  • Voting Rights and Advancement Act (H.R. 4): This bill protects voters from disenfranchisement in states with a history of voter suppression and requires preclearance by the Department of Justice or U.S. District Court before changes can be enforced.

  • Equality Act (H.R. 5): This bill prohibits discrminiation based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity to protect members of the LGBTQ+ community.

  • Paycheck Fairness Act (H.R. 7): This bill works to eliminate the pay gap between men and women by ensuring equal pay for equal work regardless of sex.
