The recently leaked Supreme Court draft opinion that would overturn nearly 50 years of precedent and take away the right to privacy for millions of Americans is the culmination of hundreds of millions in dark money spending by extremist right-wing partisan groups tied to Minority Leader McConnell and other Republicans. This is the result of a coordinated $1.1 billion, billionaire-backed, dark money effort to capture the courts and take away reproductive freedom.
Now, Republican Senate candidates like Chuck Morse, Kevin Smith, and Don Bolduc are running to enact draconian restrictions that would criminalize doctors for providing safe medical services, punish people for having abortions in their home states, including banning it even in cases of rape, incest, and if the life of the person is in danger. Chuck Morse recently supported a bill instituting a 24-week ban on abortion that “makes no exception for rape, incest, or for fetal viability” and “includes criminal and civil penalties for health care providers who provide abortions after 24 weeks gestation,” Kevin Smith reacted to the Court’s draft decision by saying “we are so close to ending abortion once and for all,” and Don Bolduc lauded the repeal of Roe as “the right call”.
The stakes of the 2022 elections could not be higher. Voters in New Hampshire have a clear choice between extremists in Morse, Smith, and Bolduc, who want the government to make healthcare decisions for people in New Hampshire, and Senator Maggie Hassan, who will protect reproductive health care and ensure that every person in New Hampshire has the freedom to make their own medical decisions.
