Steve Daines has accepted over $2.9 million from corporate PACs; Steve Bullock rejects corporate PAC money
Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Steve Bullock and Senator Steve Daines faced off in a debate for the competitive Senate race. Bullock took the opportunity to highlight a fundamental priority when he gets to Washington: the fight against corruption and getting Big Money out of politics.
When it comes to Big Money, the contrast between Bullock and Daines couldn’t be clearer. Over the course of Daines’ career, he has taken over $2.9 million from PACs, including $193,000 from Big Pharma and over $240,000 from the fossil fuel industry. Meanwhile, Bullock rejects corporate PAC money, making lowering the cost of prescriptions and taking on drug companies a key priority.
Bullock knows that nothing can be done for Montanans with Big Money blocking Congress’ every move, and has demonstrated his commitment against Big Money in politics throughout his career. As Montana’s Attorney General, Bullock fought Citizens United every step of the way, and as Governor, passed the DISCLOSE Act, one of the toughest campaign reform laws in the country.
“As Attorney General, Governor, and now candidate for U.S. Senate, Steve Bullock has spent his career fighting corruption, ” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “While Steve Daines buddies up to his special interest donors like Koch Industries and the DeVos family, Bullock is fighting to end the toxic influence of money in politics. Steve Bullock will bring his reform-focused platform to Washington to fight on behalf of Montanans, not special interests.”
