New Ad Campaign: Texas Republicans’ Ties to Corporate Special Interests Endanger Healthcare

Oct 20, 2020

End Citizens United (ECU) is launching a $370,000 TV and direct mail campaign in four House districts across the state of Texas. The TV ads will support Sarah DeMerchant (HD-26)Lorenzo Sanchez (HD-67), and Brandy Chambers (HD-112), and the direct mail campaign targets Republican incumbent Sam Harless (HD-126), who is being challenged by Natali Hurtado. All of these challengers are taking on incumbents who have ties to corporate special interests and have worked to undermine protections for Texans’ healthcare, ignoring the needs of their constituents as a result.

“These four Democratic challengers are running to flip the Texas State House and protect access to healthcare in their districts that have come under attack by the Republican-controlled legislature,” said ECU President Tiffany Muller. “Instead of doing their job and fighting for the people they were elected to represent, these Republican incumbents have sided with the corporate special interests that bankroll their campaigns. Texans’ access to quality, affordable healthcare is on the ballot this November. It’s time to put power back in the hands of the people by electing these four reformers to the Texas House.”

The direct mail campaign against State Representative Sam Harless (HD-126) shows voters how his ties to the drug and insurance industries have made it harder for Texans to access quality healthcare. His opponent, Natali Hurtado, and the entire slate of Democratic challengers, will stand up to corporate special interests and fight to make healthcare more affordable and accessible.

The TV ads will run on cable and streaming services from October 22 through Election Day. The series of mail will run throughout October.
