New Ad: Rep. Davis Is Just Another Politician Out for Himself and His Corporate Donors

Oct 27, 2020

End Citizens United (ECU) launched a $65,000 TV ad campaign in Illinois’ 13th Congressional District reminding voters that Congressman Rodney Davis is just another politician who’s only out for himself and his corporate donors. Titled “Typical,” the ad also highlights Davis’ ties to Exelon, the parent company of ComEd.

Under federal investigation, ComEd admitted to bribery charges for its corrupt lobbying practices that led to favorable legislation for the utility giant and agreed with the Department of Justice to pay a $200 million fine. Rodney Davis has taken over $64,000 from Exelon’s corporate PAC over the course of his career, and right before the election, Federal Election Commission filings show that Rodney Davis took more money from an executive at Exelon despite the federal investigation.

“Congressman Davis is the only candidate in the race who has taken money from ComEd’s parent company, and he’s trying to cover up his ties to the corrupt utility giant,” said ECU President Tiffany Muller. “He’s taken over $64,000 from Exelon’s corporate PAC, and still hasn’t come clean to Illinois families about his ties to the company. This is just a drop in the bucket for Davis, who has taken over $3.4 million from corporate PACs throughout his political career, including from the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, and has prevented progress on lowering prescription drugs and healthcare costs. Unlike her opponent, Betsy Dirksen Londrigan doesn’t take corporate PAC money, and will always put Illinois families first.”

The ad will run on cable TV from October 27 through Election Day.

VO: It’s called “bribery.”

What ComEd admitted to – all to charge us higher electricity rates.

But when Rodney Davis takes $64,000 from its parent company, it’s called – typical.

Because Rodney Davis has taken over three-point-four million from corporate PACs.

So, if corporate special interests have that much faith in Rodney Davis, then why in the world should you?

Unlike dark money groups, ECU is entirely transparent and every penny is disclosed with the Federal Election Commission. Unlike Super PACs, ECU adheres to contribution limits and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average contribution of $14.
