Poll shows Porter ahead 48%-47%
Almost 60% of likely voters polled said the amount of money corporations and the wealthy spend on political campaigns affect them or their family
Washington, DC — A new poll of likely voters, commissioned by End Citizens United (ECU) and conducted by GBA Strategies, shows a tight race in CA-45 between Katie Porter and Rep. Mimi Walters. The poll shows Porter with a slight lead over incumbent Rep. Walters, 48-47 percent. Click here to see the polling memo.
The poll found money in politics upsets voters in California’s 45th Congressional District, with 57% of voters saying that the amount of money corporations and the wealthy spend on political campaigns affects them or their family. It also found that Porter has an advantage when it comes to being seen as “independent” and “cares about regular people.”
“Voters in CA-45 want a representative who will put them ahead of special interests and wealthy donors,” said Tiffany Muller, president of End Citizens United. “Katie’s reform-focused campaign offers voters a chance to elect a representative who has been fighting against powerful interests over her career. We’ll continue to get the word out about Katie, and her commitment to putting people first.”
GBA Strategies surveyed 400 likely voters in CA-45 from September 20-23. The margin of error is +/- 4.9%.
ECU endorsed Porter in February, citing her long record of fighting special interests on behalf of California families, and her decision to reject corporate PAC contributions. In addition to her rejection of corporate PAC donations, Porter is not accepting donations from Big Banks, Big Oil and Gas, or Big Pharma. The CA-45 race was the first time ECU made an independent expenditure in a primary.
