Bishop blocked Michiganders from suing drug companies, took tens of thousands from Big Pharma
Elissa Slotkin rejects corporate PAC money and is making reform central to her campaign
End Citizens United (ECU) today launched a new TV ad in Michigan exposing Rep. Mike Bishop’s history of taking campaign contributions from Big Pharma and voting to protect their interests. Bishop helped keep Michigan as the only state where drug companies can’t be sued when their drugs prove to be dangerous – even deadly. In Washington, Bishop voted to give them a twenty-eight billion dollar tax break.
The ad, titled “Did It Again” is part of a $618,000 ad campaign that includes television ads, digital ads, and direct mail.
“Instead of standing up for everyday Michiganders, Rep. Mike Bishop has aligned himself with Big Pharma,” said ECU President Tiffany Muller. “As a State Senator and Congressman, he’s lined his pockets with their campaign contributions and fought tooth and nail to safeguard their interests. Bishop’s relationship with his big donors is a prime example what’s wrong with Washington — and it’s hurting Michigan families.”
The $618,000 ad buy includes: $457,000 in broadcast and cable television ads, which will run from September 25-October 8; $67,000 in digital ads; and $94,000 in direct mail.
In December, ECU named Congressman Bishop to its Big Money 20 target list for the 2018 midterms because he puts the interests of his mega-donors ahead of his constituents. Unlike Bishop, Elissa Slotkin is rejecting corporate PAC money and released a reform agenda aimed at bringing more transparency and accountability to Washington.
