End Citizens United (ECU) // Let America Vote (LAV) Action Fund launched a new television ad in West Virginia today as part of the group’s campaign to pass anti-corruption and voting rights legislation that would stop billionaires from buying our elections, end partisan gerrymandering, and protect Americans’ freedom to vote, among other reforms. The ad features Major General and former Adjutant General for the West Virginia National Guard Allen E. Tackett (Ret.), who thanks Senator Joe Manchin for his compromise approach on voting rights legislation and calls on the Senate to not let “politics and process stand in the way” or let Senator Mitch McConnell “run out the clock” on protecting the freedom to vote.
Recent polling from End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund shows that voting rights and anti-corruption legislation has overwhelming bipartisan support in West Virginia––with 79 percent of West Virginians in favor, including three quarters of Republicans.
This new $450,000 television ad buy is part of a $30 million campaign from End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund and the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC) to pass the For the People Act. The ad will air on local broadcast, cable, and streaming platforms in West Virginia for three weeks, beginning on July 27, 2021.
Full script of the ad:
As the Adjutant General, I saw Joe Manchin’s leadership up close
And with our right to vote under attack
We need his leadership now, more than ever
Joe has written a plan that protects the freedom to vote
And can help unite this country again
This is too important to let politics and process get in the way
Or let Mitch McConnell run out the clock
With our democracy at stake
I know Joe can help save it
