New WV Ad: Maj. Gen. Tackett (Ret.): ‘We need the For the People Act’

May 20, 2021

End Citizens United (ECU) // Let America Vote (LAV) Action Fund launched a television ad in West Virginia today as part of the group’s campaign to pass the For the People Act (H.R. 1, S. 1), which would stop billionaires from buying our elections and protect Americans’ freedom to vote, among many other reforms. The TV ad, which profiles Major General and former Adjutant General for the West Virginia National Guard Allen E. Tackett (Ret.), is the newest addition to a $2,750,000 television ad campaign in West Virginia that started in early May and will run through June. It comes after a successful markup of the For the People Act in the Senate Rules Committee last week.

A new poll, commissioned by ECU // LAV Action Fund and conducted by Global Strategy Group, shows that the For the People Act is extremely popular in West Virginia––with 79 percent of West Virginia voters supporting the billi, including three quarters of Republicans .

The ad will air on local broadcast, cable, and streaming platforms in West Virginia.

“Corporate special interests and wealthy donors have too much power in Washington, and that’s why West Virginians strongly support the For the People Act,” said ECU // LAV Action Fund President Tiffany Muller. “This critical reform bill will reduce the influence of lobbyists and special interests, stop billionaires from buying our elections, modernize our voting systems to ensure safe and accurate elections, and protect everyone’s freedom to vote. The Senate must listen to West Virginians, and Americans across the country, and pass it into law now.”

“West Virginians have had enough of politicians in Washington prioritizing the needs of a few billionaires instead of the American people,” said Maj. Gen. Allen E. Tackett (Ret.). “We need to stop the corruption. Right now lobbyists and people with money call all of the shots; the For the People Act is the only way we will stop the special interests from buying our elections and restore the power back to regular working people. ”

Full script of the ad:
As Adjutant General, I had a singular mission – to serve the people of West Virginia.

But Washington is failing its mission.

It’s failing us.

I didn’t serve my country for 48 years just so a few billionaires could call the shots.

We need the For The People Act.

It will end dark money and crack down on corruption.

So that Washington serves West Virginia.
