Q1: “No Corporate PAC” Candidates Continue to Lead in Fundraising

Apr 28, 2022

New FEC fundraising reports from the first quarter of 2022 show yet again that candidates who refuse to take corporate PAC money saw widespread success in fundraising totals. Frontline Democratic candidates who reject corporate PAC money, on average, outraised all other Democratic frontline candidates by over $300,000.

2022 Q1 Average Raised:

  • Frontline no corporate PAC candidates: $979,333

  • Frontline non-no corporate PAC candidates: $683,150

2022 Q1 Average Cash on Hand:

  • Frontline no corporate PAC candidates: $4,575,966

  • Frontline non-no corporate PAC candidates: $3,094,217

No corporate PAC candidates also consistently outraised their Republican opponents. Overall, no corporate PAC frontline members raised on average over $550,000 more than their top-raising Republican challenger. These candidates have proven their dedication to fighting for the people, holding themselves accountable only to the people they represent, not wealthy corporate special interests. This is reflected in the large amount of small-dollar donations to their campaigns, which correlated to a higher overall fundraising total.

See below for examples of fundraising success from no corporate PAC candidates:

  • Representative Kim Schrier of Washington’s 8th district raised nearly $1.2 million in Q1, more than twice the total raised by the 4 Republican challengers combined.

  • Representative Abigail Spanberger of Virginia’s 7th district has more than $3 million more cash on hand than any of her Republican challengers.

  • Representative Josh Harder of California’s 9th district raised over $1 million in the first three months of 2022, with $925,000 coming from individual donors. Rep. Harder raised more than double his closest GOP challenger.

  • Representative Katie Porter of California’s 47th district has $17.7 million cash on hand, raising $3.1 million in Q1 of 2022. Rep. Porter outraised the nearest Republican challenger by almost four times.

  • Representative Kathy Manning of North Carolina’s 6th district has over $1 million more cash on hand than her Republican challengers.

  • Representative Elissa Slotkin of Michigan’s 7th district more than doubled the Q1 total of her opponent, raising over $1.3 million compared to State Sen. Tom Barrett’s $465,735.
