Q4: Corporate PACs Continue to Prop Up Rep. Upton

Feb 04, 2020

Rep. Fred Upton, a Big Money 20 incumbent, received a total of $66,500 from corporate PACs in Q4

In 2019, Upton received over $270,000 from corporate PACs

In the fourth quarter of 2019, Rep. Fred Upton (MI-06) took $66,500 from corporate PACs, including $13,000 from Big Pharma. Over the course of 2019, Upton took a whopping total of over $270,000 from corporate PACs. Rep. Upton’s reliance on corporate PACs underscores his campaign’s lack of support from Michiganders and his dependence on corporate special interests. In 2019, twenty-one percent of Upton’s total contributions came from corporate PACs.

“Rep. Upton has worked to advance corporate special interests in Washington over Michiganders. Now, in the midst of a tough reelection, Upton is relying on them to boost his flailing campaign. Michiganders know these contributions are why their voices are not heard in Washington,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller.

Rep. Fred Upton’s reliance on corporate PAC money highlights how he has put corporate special interests over the needs of Michiganders. While Michiganders are crippled by the rising cost of prescription drugs, Upton voted against the Lower Drug Costs Now Act of 2019 (H.R. 3). H.R. 3 would empower the Department of Health and Human Services to negotiate annual prices for the 250 most expensive prescriptions on the market and establish a maximum price on negotiated drugs.

ECU’s Big Money 20 campaign is focused on holding incumbents who benefit most from the corrupt establishment in Washington accountable by showing voters how politicians put corporate special interest donors ahead of the people they’re supposed to represent. For a full list and additional background on the Big Money 20, click here.

ECU is a traditional political action committee (PAC) with more than four million members, including 7,700 in Michigan’s Sixth Congressional District.
