Q4: Fundraising Numbers Highlight Rep. Davis’ Lack of Support from Illinoisans

Jan 31, 2020

Davis, a Big Money 20 incumbent, received $86,500 from corporate PACs in the fourth fundraising quarter alone

ECU-endorsed Betsy Dirksen Londrigan outraised Davis by over $170,000 and has over $67,000 more cash on hand while rejecting corporate PAC money

Rep. Rodney Davis (IL-13) has built his career cashing in corporate PAC checks while letting the interests of Illinoisans fall by the wayside. Davis’ FEC filing for the fourth fundraising quarter shows that Illinoisans are taking notice. In the fourth quarter, ECU-endorsed candidate Betsy Dirksen Londrigan raised $531,000 while Rep. Davis reported $360,900. Dirksen Londrigan also now has more cash on hand with over $1.1 million while Davis has $1 million. Rep. Davis received $86,500 from corporate PACs just in the fourth quarter alone and has accepted over $2.7 million of corporate PAC money over the course of his career.

“Rodney Davis’ record of corruption in Washington is catching up to him,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “While Betsy Dirksen Londrigan is rejecting corporate PAC money and building a grassroots campaign made up of almost 90 percent individual donors, Davis’ support from Illinoisans is nowhere to be found. It’s clear Illinois families are fed up with Davis’ corruption and ready for new, accountable leadership. Betsy Dirksen Londrigan is the leader to bring Illinoisans that change.”

ECU has conducted extensive polling and research showing that voters across the political spectrum support getting big money out of politics. ECU is a traditional political action committee (PAC) with more than four million members, including 6,800 in Illinois’ 13th Congressional District. ECU raised $44 million in the 2018 cycle and helped elect over 150 members to the 116th Congress, including two new U.S. Senators and 58 new U.S. Representatives. The reform group is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
