Collins has taken the most corporate PAC money in Maine history
As we enter the final stretch of the 2020 election cycle, with candidates squaring off in debates and making their final pitches to voters, it’s important to remember that Senator Susan Collins has cashed $6 million from corporate PACs over the course of her career, the most in Maine history. These corporate special interests include but are not limited to: Big Pharma, health insurance PACs and Big Oil.
“Ask any Mainer struggling to afford their prescription drugs if they believe Susan Collins isn’t beholden to Big Pharma. Ask any senior citizen who has had their Social Security and Medicare targeted because of the GOP tax bill if they believe Collins isn’t beholden to her corporate donors. Ask any Mainer with a pre-existing condition if they believe Senator Collins isn’t beholden to giant health insurance PACs,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “These contributions are the reason why Mainers’ voices aren’t heard in Washington.”
During the 2018 election cycle, corporate PACs spent over $419 million to influence elections, which includes $185 million contributed directly to candidates running for office. That’s 40% of all PAC giving, making it the largest source of PAC giving in the country.
