Rep. David Schweikert Votes Against Expanding Access to Affordable Healthcare for Arizonans

Jun 29, 2020

Over the course of his career, Schweikert has taken over $119,000 from Big Pharma and health insurance PACs

Rep. David Schweikert (AZ-06) today voted against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act (H.R. 1425), a bill that would enhance the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The vote comes on the heels of President Trump and Republicans asking the Supreme Court last week to strike down all protections and benefits in the ACA amid the coronavirus outbreak. It’s no surprise that Schweikert voted against affordable healthcare for Arizona families after taking over $119,000 from Big Pharma and health insurance PACs over the course of his career.

“During this global pandemic, when Arizonans need access to affordable healthcare more than ever before, Rep. David Scwheikert sided with the Big Pharma special interests that bankroll his campaign,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Schweikert’s vote was bought by corporate special interests and we’ll make sure voters remember this vote against affordable health care.”

While the Trump Administration is trying to strip healthcare protections from 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions and rip coverage away from 23 million Americans, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act passed by House Democrats today would lower health coverage costs, negotiate for lowering the cost of prescription drugs, expand healthcare coverage, combat inequity in health coverage experienced by communities of color, and strengthen protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions.
