On December 2, Roll Call reported that Rep. Elaine Luria will accept corporate PAC contributions after telling her constituents:
“And I can tell you that a key tenet in my campaign is that I am not accepting any corporate PAC contributions. Not from prescription drug companies, not from oil companies, not from health care companies, not from private prisons, not from anyone who can influence my vote when I go to Washington. My door is open to listen to everyone, but I don’t need their money in order to do that.”
Incredibly, after ignoring Roll Call for 11 days, the only person speaking on behalf of Rep. Luria is the executive director of the National Association of Business Political Action Committees:
“Micaela Isler, who serves as executive director of the National Association of Business Political Action Committees, said Luria “walked back that pledge going into the next cycle.” [Roll Call, 12/2/2020]
“Micaela Isler, executive director of the National Association of Business Political Action Committees, confirmed with Sludge over email that a Dec. 8 virtual fundraiser invitation from Luria indicates the congresswoman is now taking PAC dollars without restrictions.” [Sludge, 12/3/2020]
It has been 17 days. Rep. Luria’s constituents deserve to hear from her about why she is going back on her word and accepting corporate PAC money.
