Rep. Rodney Davis Voted Against Oversight & Transparency for PPP Loans While Small Illinois Businesses Continue to Struggle

Jun 01, 2020

Congressman Rodney Davis (IL-13) last week voted against the TRUTH Act, legislation aimed at bringing critical oversight and transparency to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). The bill was introduced in response to the Trump administration’s negligent handling of the $2.2 Trillion CARES Act stimulus bill, which was intended to help small businesses.

“Congressman Davis doesn’t have the spine to stand up to the Trump administration or his corporate donors,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “While small businesses throughout Illinois fight to stay afloat, Davis wants to keep his party’s bosses happy instead of making sure the relief money goes to where it was intended. Illinois families are desperate for help, but their concerns are falling on Congressman Davis’ deaf ears.”

Davis has been consistent in his refusal to support efforts to shine a light on corruption and abuse of taxpayer dollars in the COVID relief packages. In April, Davis voted against the formation of a House committee to oversee relief spending and to recover money taken by large corporations that should have never received the money. Davis has taken over $3.3 million from corporate PACs over his career, including $680,000 in the 2020 cycle alone.
