Republicans Slam Trump’s Victory Lap Before Votes Are Counted: “I was very distressed by that”

Nov 04, 2020

Current and former Republican elected officials and conservative pundits criticized President Donald Trump’s shameful campaign speech from the White House declaring victory and stating that millions of Americans should have their legitimately cast ballots thrown out.

Americans turned out in record numbers to make their voices heard this year and we owe it to them to count every single vote. Vice President Joe Biden has won more votes than any presidential candidate in American history and when every vote is counted, he will be the next president of the United States.

  • Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie: “There’s just no basis [for Trump] to make that argument tonight. There just isn’t.”

  • Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum: “I was very distressed by what I just heard the president say.”

  • Rep. Adam Kinzinger: “Stop. Full stop. The votes will be counted and you will either win or lose. And America will accept that. Patience is a virtue.”

  • GOP election lawyer Ben Ginsberg, who represented four of the last six Republican presidential nominees: “What the president said tonight is not only unprecedented, and not only lacks any basis in the law, it really is a disservice to all the other men and women on the ballot.”

  • Sen. Marco Rubio: “The result of the presidential race will be known after every legally cast vote has been counted.”

  • Conservative pundit Ben Shapiro: “No, Trump has not already won the election, and it is deeply irresponsible for him to say he has.”

  • Republican Philadelphia City Commissioner Al Schmidt: “Philadelphia will NOT stop counting ALL legitimate votes cast by eligible voters. And we will report and report and report until the last vote is counted.”

  • Utah Lieutenant Governor Spencer Cox, who won his race for Governor last night: “Just a little reminder that there is nothing nefarious about it taking a few days to count all legitimate votes.”
