WASHINGTON – Today, End Citizens United (ECU) PAC officially endorsed U.S. Representative Rick Nolan (D-MN) for reelection in Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District. End Citizens United is a grassroots-funded organization that is dedicated to electing members of Congress who will fight to overturn Citizens United and advocate for campaign finance reform to remove “dark money” from our political system.
“Rep. Nolan is one of the most powerful voices against Citizens United,” said Richard Carbo, Communications Director for End Citizens United. “He’s a tireless advocate for the millions of Americans who feel their voices are being drowned out by the corporations and billionaires who are attempting to buy elections across the country. End Citizens United and our grassroots supporters are committed to helping Rep. Nolan return to Congress and look forward to working with him on this important issue.”
“Corporations are not people, and the billions of untraceable dollars flowing into elections across the country are corrupting the political process,” said Rep. Nolan. “In Congress, I’m working to return the power to elect our leaders back to the American people – not corporations and billionaires. Minnesotans want an open and transparent political process. I look forward to working with End Citizens United to keep this issue as a central part of the conversation in 2016, and I appreciate their support for this campaign.”
In May 2015, Rep. Nolan introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives calling for a constitutional amendment overturning Citizens United. In addition, he has introduced legislation calling for the disclosure of all political contributions and limits on the amount of money candidates and political action committees can receive.
End Citizens United PAC was established in March 2015 to counter the disastrous effects of Citizens United and reform our campaign finance system. End Citizens United has raised more than $2 million from more than 150,000 contributions, with an average contribution of $15. To date, more than 325,000 individuals have signed their name to a petition calling for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.
