Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson is continuing to push the Big Lie that led to the January 6 insurrection. In a newly released interview, Senator Johnson revealed that he has met with Sidney Powell, a conspiracy theorist who is facing legal repercussions for lying about the 2020 election in court, and that he supports a fraudulent sham review of Wisconsin’s 2020 election, a tactic being used by Republicans across the country to undermine trust in our democracy, take away the right to vote for many Americans, and score political points with the GOP’s fringe base.
This is not the first time Senator Johnson has pushed conspiracy theories and disinformation. In the past few months, Johnson, who is one of the most vulnerable incumbents in the upcoming election, has falsely claimed that there was no violence on the Senate side at the Jan. 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol and has repeatedly amplified false allegations of voter fraud during the 2020 election. It’s no wonder Johnson is one of the most unpopular Senators in the country with a plurality of Wisconsin voters viewing him unfavorably.
