The Supreme Court decision today overturning Roe v. Wade takes away the right to privacy and Americans’ freedom to make their own decision on whether to have an abortion. Senator Johnson wants to make abortion illegal in Wisonsin, without exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother, criminalize doctors for providing safe medical services, and punish Wisconsinites for having abortions.
Johnson has long pushed to overturn Roe v. Wade and prevent people in Wisconsin from accessing the healthcare they need, while downplaying the effects of rolling back reproductive freedoms. When discussing the impact repealing Roe v. Wade would have, Johnson stated: “I don’t view that [as] such a huge threat to women’s health. I think – I think things would be just fine.” Johnson has also said if individuals don’t like the abortion laws in their state, they simply “can move” and endorsed a complete ban on abortion in Wisconsin.
The stakes of the 2022 election could not be higher. Wisconsin voters have a clear choice between Senator Johnson, who wants to roll back our freedoms and have the government make healthcare decisions for people in Wisconsin, and Mandela Barnes, who will ensure that every person in Wisconsin has the freedom to make their own medical decisions.
