SC-01: End Citizens United and Let America Vote Stand with Rep. Joe Cunningham Heading into the General Election

Jun 10, 2020

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on news that Representative Joe Cunningham (SC-01) is advancing to the general election:

“Congressman Joe Cunningham is delivering on his promise to make Washington work for South Carolinians. In one of the country’s most competitive races in 2018, Cunningham won by rejecting PAC money and building a grassroots-powered campaign. In Congress, he helped pass the For the People Act, the most comprehensive anti-corruption, voting rights, and ethics bill since Watergate. Unlike Nancy Mace, who’s backed by corporate special interests, Cunningham is fighting to unrig the broken system in Washington. We look forward to ensuring he’s re-elected so he continues the incredible work he started.”

ECU endorsed Cunningham’s re-election campaign in March 2019 as part of the group’s first round of House incumbent endorsements. Cunningham ran on a platform of reform in 2018, and showed leadership in the passage of the For the People Act (H.R.1). The reform group has four million members nationwide, including 6,800 in South Carolina’s First Congressional District, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
