Sen. Susan Collins Focused on Supporting Wall Street While Leaving Maine Families Out to Dry

Mar 23, 2020

Wall Street has spent $72 million to support Republicans so far in the 2020 cycle

Since the 2010 Citizens United decision, Wall Street has spent over $1 billion to support Republicans

Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), a Big Money 20 member, today voted to advance the Phase 3 COVID-19 Relief Package. The proposal, spearheaded by Mitch McConnell, woefully ignores American families and workers struggling to cope with COVID-19 while giving corporations another massive bailout. Wall Street has spent $72 million to support Republicans in the 2020 cycle already and has spent $1 billion to support the Republican party since the disastrous 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court decision.

“Senator Collins’ decision to prioritize no-strings-attached funding for corporate bailouts while ignoring workers is reprehensible,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Instead of prioritizing the well-being of Americans, whose daily lives have been upended by a global pandemic, this package would give Republicans broad authority to bail out any corporation they want and hide the details from the American people. During this time of crisis you would think Senator Collins would put her allegiance to corporate special interests aside to focus on American families, but her two votes for this inadequate Republican bill shows just how bought and paid for Collins is.”
