Senate Republicans’ Agenda will Put Their Corporate Donors First, While Raising Taxes on Working Families

Feb 22, 2022

This morning, Senator Rick Scott, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), rolled out an eleven point plan for an agenda that Senate Republicans would pursue if they win back the majority. The plan is a wish list for corporate America and their greed, while intentionally hurting working families and retirees.

The Senate Republicans’ plan is exactly what their corporate donors are paying for–a plan that allows them to keep their $2 trillion tax handout and raises taxes on lower-income and retired Americans. Their agenda does nothing to rein in corporate greed and price gouging to tackle inflation and instead calls for a tax hike on single mothers, working-class families, and retired Americans.

Highlights from Senator Scott’s plan:

  • Raises taxes on working class families, single mothers, and retirees.

  • Cuts critical bipartisan infrastructure investments in American roads and bridges, and takes away good-paying American jobs.

  • Disenfranchises military voters and bans accessible methods of voting like ballot drop boxes.

  • Stacks the deck even further in favor of corporations and their wealthy executives, who get to keep their tax handouts, and against American workers, who will see their taxes and prices continue to rise.

  • Keeps allowing members of Congress to trade stock, which lets them exploit their positions of power for financial gain.

  • Does NOT reduce fraud in Medicare.

  • Does NOT lower drug prices for most Americans to get affordable access to the treatments they need.

Senator Scott has already gleefully rooted for the economy to worsen so Americans have to pay higher prices, calling it a “gold mine” for Republicans. Now, he’s putting out an agenda for Senate Republicans to explicitly take even more money out of the pockets of hard-working Americans, while letting corporations continue to slide by without paying their fair share.

Meanwhile, Senate Democrats are working hard to crack down on corporate greed and exploitation, and lower costs for working families.
