Senator Marco Rubio Votes Again to Protect Dark Money and D.C. Special Interests

Jan 20, 2022

Yet again, Senator Rubio has sided with his dark money allies and wealthy donors over the people of Florida, choosing to support the irreversible fall of American democracy and putting himself on the wrong side of history. By voting against the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act, he proved once again that the only people he is fighting for in Washington are his rich supporters.

The Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act, a commonsense anti-corruption and voting rights bill combining ideas from Democrats and Republicans, ensures every American has the freedom to make their voices heard in our elections, ends dark money so that corporate special interests and billionaires aren’t buying our elections, stops partisan gerrymandering, and protects our elections from sabotage, while making certain that voters are safe from intimidation and trusted local officials are able to count every vote.

Senator Rubio is beholden to Washington special interests. Throughout his career, he has taken over $3.3 million from corporate PACs and this vote shows that he will always side with corporate, big money interests over the people of Florida.

“By voting against this commonsense bill, Senator Rubio has reminded Florida voters that corporate special interests and his wealthy donors are more important than the people of Florida. He is allowing his dark money allies to flood our elections with dark money and continue their efforts to sabotage our elections in a cynical and partisan power grab,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller.
