Senator Rubio Sides With Dark Money, Votes Against Protecting the Freedom to Vote

Oct 20, 2021

Senator Marco Rubio today voted against the Freedom to Vote Act, proving once again that he will always put dark money special interests ahead of the people of Florida.

The Freedom to Vote Act is a commonsense, compromise bill that combines ideas from both Democrats and Republicans to protect access to the ballot box so every American can make their voice heard on the issues that matter most, end dark money so billionaires can’t buy our elections, stop partisan gerrymandering so voters get the fair and equal representation they deserve, and protect our elections from sabotage, ensuring that voters are safe from intimidation and trusted local officials are able to count every vote.

Rubio is beholden to Washington special interests. Throughout his career, Rubio has taken over $3.2 million from corporate PACsand this vote shows that he will always side with corporate interests over the people of Florida.

“Senator Rubio is completely out of touch with working Florida families and the reality our democracy is facing. His vote against the Freedom to Vote Act is a vote against stopping corporate special interests and billionaires’ from buying policy outcomes and ensuring every American has equal access to the ballot box,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller. “Senator Rubio is putting dark money special interests above the hard-working families of Florida who are fighting to make their voices heard in their democracy so they can make progress on the issues that matter most to them, like lowering prescription drug costs and combating climate change.”
